Summary

"Autorino's work is unique in style and combines an early twentieth century feel with present-day subjects. His soft palette masterfully captures the mood of each individual setting from falling snow to nocturnal views of the Delaware River. Anthony's work is clearly a continuing chapter in the story of 'New Hope School' Impressionist painting"
-Jim Alterman

As a teenager Anthony Michael Autorino enlisted in the Air Force. For eight years he worked at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France as a cryptographer. It was in Paris that he began to be interested in painting.

After returning to the United States, Autorino began to paint in New York and New England. He opened his first art gallery in New Hope in the late 1960s. He moved across the Delaware River to Lambertville, New Jersey, where he opened the Lambertville Fine Art Gallery, which remained in business until 2001.

In 1968 he decided to make a permanent home in the Delaware Valley. In the 1980s, he moved into the previous house of George Sotter in Buckingham of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Autorino was mainly a self-taught artist, whose primary medium was oil. While considered a landscape artist, he also painted a myriad of other subjects including crowded beach scenes, genre paintings, and farm animals.

Autorino exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York City, the American Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Sketch Club, Jim's of Lambertville Fine Art Gallery, and the Michener Art Museum in New Hope. He died in December 2015 in Vermont.
